What to Expect from Online Couples Therapy
Your future self deserves you investing in an exploration of your past.
Diving into the question, “How did I get where I am today?” is the best gift only you can give to yourself.
We start deep, giving pain points for both individuals the attention they need to allow your adult relationship to reach its potential.
You are building a solid foundation for yourself and generations to come.
Why is telehealth helpful?
Telehealth couples counseling has unique benefits, especially when confronting difficult issues.
Pet’s support. Pets intuitively feel your emotions. They like to be involved.
Self soothing environment. Blankets, snacks, your bathtub and own bed are helpful to self soothing.
Childcare costs. Meeting while your kids are in bed or at school decreases financial stress.
Deciding to Stay or Go
Discernment counseling helps you answer the often hardest question you have to face, Should I Stay or Go? By breaking down the process into digestible parts, you learn deeply about how your childhood has influenced your identity, life choices and expectations. You often see how your current crossroads in life are in some ways inevitable, based on early, unresolved childhood adaptations.
Having support to decide Should I Stay or Go, you also uncouple the co-dependency of relying on other’s versions of your reality. Building your own internal voice, you increase confidence, lessening dependency that leads to self-doubt and resentment of other people.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I schedule alone? Or, with a business partner, co-founder, adult child or sibling?
Absolutely.
Can I do a telehealth couples retreat?
Yes. The initial appointment is 2.5 hours which results in a goals or relationship analysis and suggested strategy for next steps, to complete on your own or with a one or two day telehealth retreat. Two hour appointments may be available as a modification.
Is online couples therapy effective?
Couples therapy via telehealth or couples therapy in person are similarly influenced by issues that predict positive or negative outcomes. If both partners are receptive, in good faith and eager to resolve their issues, virtual couples counseling or in person will likely yield positive momentum. If you have a partner with ambivalence, or if you’re not both in good faith with the truth, virtual couples counseling or in person will not likely yield a positive result for the couple’s outcome. However, coming away from couples therapy with your personal truth, whether positive or negative, is success in my perspective.
How do virtual sessions work?
Just like in person, but you don’t have to leave your home. You do need a quiet, non-interrupted, confidential space. Lessen distractions. Turn off your phone and devices, make sure your kids are settled, so you can concentrate. The first appointment is 2.5 hours.
Can I do couples therapy if my partner won't participate?
Absolutely. Sign up for an Initial Individual Appointment and we can help you strategize the best next steps for you both. You may need help to weigh the pros and cons of your possible relationship decisions. Take the Stay or Go quiz and learn more about discernment counseling.
